The Bovada Casino Signup Bonus

Bovada casino screenshotBovada Casino has a better than average signup bonus. On your first eight deposits, you can get $3000 in free casino chips. These eight bonuses consist of two separate offers, each of which can be taken advantage of four times. The first offer is the slots bonus, which is a 100% matching offer worth up to $500. The second offer is the “other casino games” bonus, which consists of a 100% matching bonus of up to $250. The slots bonus has a 25X rollover requirement, and the other casino games offer has a 40X rollover requirement.

Here’s a step by step guide to claiming these bonuses:

  1. Join the casino.
  2. Make a deposit.
  3. Input a bonus code
    • Sports (BVSBITCOIN50): 50% Match Bonus up to $500.
    • Casino (BVCBITCOIN150): 150% Match Bonus up to $1,500 (Redeemable 3X).
  4. Claim your bonus
  5. Play casino games.

That’s not the only signup bonus available, though. Here are some of their other bonuses:

  • 100% Match Bonus up to $1,000 for Casino (Redeemable 3X).
  • 50% match up to $250 for Sports.
  • Bitcoin Welcome Bonus: 150% Match Bonus up to $1,500 (Redeemable 3X) in Casino.
  • Bitcoin Welcome Bonus: 50% up to $500 for Sports.

Joining the casino is simple. Clicking the link in #1, then fill out the required information. All of the information you’ll input will be standard stuff, like your name, address, phone number, and email address. You’ll also be asked for your date of birth, country of residence, and how you heard about Bovada.

Making a deposit doesn’t take much effort either. Probably the easiest way to fund your casino account is to just charge your deposit to your Visa card. Depending on the issuing bank, you might or might not have success with this method. Some banks automatically decline any kind of transaction related to online gaming. Not to worry, though–Bovada has other options for funding your account. Players can also use MasterCard and Bitcoin to fund their account.

Withdrawals at Bovada are some of the fastest in the industry. While options are a bit limited, you don’t need 800 different ways to get your money; you just need one reliable way that works for you. The three options available at Bovada are Check By Courier, Rapid Transfer, and Bitcoin.

Now, there are a few stipulations with each that you need to be aware of. First, you are only able to use the withdrawal method associated with the method you used to fund your account. If you used Bitcoin at least once, you are able to use Bitcoin. If you used Rapid Transfer, it’s the same story. Now, we are sure that none of you mailed a check into Bovada, so you’re probably wondering who has access to that option. Checks by courier are available to players who used debit or credit cards to fund their accounts.

Yes, it would be easier if the site allowed you to use all of the different options no matter what, but we completely understand that this has to do with verification and is ultimately in place to protect your money. If you deposited with a card, they are able to verify your address and such and can easily mail you a check. If someone hacked your account, though, and tried to withdraw via an untraceable Bitcoin transaction, you would be very happy that Bovada shut that down immediately.

Players are allowed one free check withdrawal per month with a maximum withdrawal of $3000. Additional checks requested will be assessed a $50 fee which is still relatively low by industry standards. Bitcoin withdrawals are fee free, and you’re allowed one every five days for a minimum of $20 and a maximum of $9500. This is definitely the easiest and cheapest of the three methods.

Rapid transfers are the quickest (as you probably guessed from their name), but they are also the most expensive option. Cashouts range from $100-$650 with an associated fee of $20-$60 depending on the size of the withdrawal.

You’re not required to download casino software. Many of Bovada’s games are available as “Instant play” games. In other words, you just play the games in your Internet browser, so they don’t require a download. But for full access to the site’s functionality, you’ll want to download their software. This will give you full access to all of the games they make available.

Wagering Requirements

The rollover requirements I mentioned earlier in this review are important. Most Internet casinos require players to wager their deposit plus their bonus a certain number of times before allowing them to cash out. Bovada is no different. This step ensures that the casino doesn’t become the prey of bonus abusers, who look for opportunities to take advantage of a casino’s bonus offers and mathematically guarantee themselves a profit.

The 25X rollover and the 40X rollover refer to the amount you have to wager before cashing out. For example, suppose you’re a slots player. You deposit $500, and you get a $500 bonus. You now have $1000 in your account. You have to make $25,000 in wagers before being allowed to cash out. This sounds like a lot, but keep in mind, you’re going to be winning for a good percentage of that time. An average slots player will make 600 spins an hour. If you’re playing for $5 per spin, then you’re putting $3000 per hour into action. You’ll achieve your rollover requirement in a little over eight hours at that rate.

Savvy readers will notice that the wagering requirement for the table games bonus is higher. That’s because some table games, like blackjack, offer extraordinarily low edges for the casino. The higher playthrough requirement ensures that the casino has a fair chance of not being taken advantage of.

For the slots bonuses, you’re only allowed to wager on the slot machine games. Play doesn’t count toward your wagering requirement. The “other casino games” bonus has limitations also. None of the following games count toward your wagering requirements:

  • Baccarat
  • Craps
  • Single Deck Blackjack
  • Double Deck Blackjack
  • Roulette
  • Sic Bo

These games all present opportunities to place even money bets with a relatively low house edge. It doesn’t take a nuclear physicist to understand how easily someone could take advantage of such a game in order to guarantee a profit, even with a 40X playthrough requirement.

Is Bovada Casino a Scam?

I’ve played at Bovada Casino for years. I’ve seen no evidence of any kind of scam there.Customer service has always been efficient and polite. The games showed no irregularities. My payouts happened in a reasonable amount of time, too. That’s my experience. I had no customer service problems, the games seemed fair, and my payouts were processed in a reasonably amount of time. But that’s just my experience. I always recommend doing some research of your own, too–just to see what other players are saying about a company.

The best place to research a casino is the Casinomeister.com forums. He’s a player advocate and an affiliate. His site features a lot of active discussion from real Internet gamblers, and you can see what kinds of complains (if any) that a particular casino has generated in the forums. He also maintains a list of “rogue casinos”. I take everything with a grain of salt, even rogue casino lists, but it’s still good to educate yourself. Bovada is not listed anywhere on the rogue casino page there, which is a good first sign.

This thread from 2012 has some interesting discussion of Bovada. The original poster asks if the casino is legitimate. One response said that the games were as fair as any other RTG casino, but another poster said that Bovada bought their software from RTG rather than leased it. Theoretically, they would be able to reprogram the payout rates. I’m sure that’s possible, but no one plays slot machines that don’t pay out, so this seems like a needless detail. A representative of the casino points out later in the thread that BODOG bought the software, and Bovada is NOT part of the same company.

Other posters in that thread discussed the length of time it took to get payouts. For the most part, they were satisfied with the amount of time it took to get payouts. One participant mentioned that he’d never had to wait more than a week to get his check. Someone else mentioned that he’d been waiting for three weeks, but that’s not something I’ve ever experienced when getting a payout.

Another thread began with complaints about the blackjack games being “rigged”. I’ve always thought that this was one of the stupidest complaints anyone could make about a casino software. All of the games provide the casino with a mathematical edge over the player. That’s how they’re designed. If the casino didn’t make a profit in the long run, it wouldn’t be in business. So why would anyone ever complain about a game being rigged? For that matter, why would a casino bother cheating? Anyway, if you want to have some fun, read Bryan’s responses to the poster. (Bryan is the Casinomeister.)

VegasClick, which is run by Michael Bluejay, a webmaster and writer I admire greatly, only has a single casino advertisement–Bovada. According to him, this is the best place at which to play online. I tend to agree with him. Not only do they offer you far more gambling from one account than most casinos, but they’re some of the easiest and fairest people I’ve dealt with in the industry.

Another excellent site, Legit Gambling Sites, offers a detailed review of Bovada. That page has a lot of great information about how popular the site is and why it’s worth it to consider playing there. It also does a nice job of including information about why someone might NOT like the site, which is unusual in this industry.

I recommend playing at Bovada Casino, but with the following caveats:

  • It might be illegal to gamble online in your jurisdiction. I’m not responsible if you break the law. That’s up to you, not me.
  • Gambling online involves risk. I’m not responsible if you lose money, period. That’s your decision, too.
